Together with the ITF, SPPI and KPI convened a public dialogue in Jakarta yesterday to call on the Indonesian government and employers to protect fisher rights. The Indonesian Fishers Rights Network—a coalition of trade unions, NGOS, and other fisher allies—also released their Policy Platform, listing demands for health and safety protections, fair wages and decent working conditions for all fishers regardless of status. Several members of the media covered comments and input from more than 100 fishers, academics, government and union officials, and other partner organizations.
