FRN Fisher leaders called on Myanmar and Thai government officials today to release the detained crew immediately. Four Thai crew and twenty-seven Burmese fishers have been detained since November 30 in Kawthaung prison for an IUU fishing incident. Fishers do not control vessel movements, and are not legally responsible for the illegal actions of their employer. The fishers should be released immediately, and the vessel captain and owner should face sanctions and penalties.
