The Indonesian Fisheries Workers Union (SPPI) has strengthened the protection of fisheries workers by officially joining the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) as an affiliate. The collaboration was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding between SPPI Chairman Achdiyanto Ilyas Pangestu and ITF Fisheries Section Southeast Asia Regional Coordinator Jon Hartough in Central Jakarta on Friday (11/14/2025).
This affiliation provides momentum to strengthen SPPI’s advocacy in monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement with partner manning agencies. This step also positions SPPI within an international network of workers with resources in various global ports.
